as seen through a photographer's lens
(published by Books Distributors Ltd)

The launch of Guido Bonett’s publication The Natural History of the Maltese Islands was held on the Friday, 18 November 2011 at Avantech’s premises in San Gwann under the auspices of Dr Mario de Marco.
The Natural History of the Maltese Islands is a photographic study of the unbelievable beauty of Maltese flora and fauna. A publication of as high a standard as any comparable publication worldwide. This is why, Nick Camilleri, Avantech’s Managing Director stated, Canon’s worldwide commitment towards nature conservation is echoed here in Malta and is the reason why Avantech and Canon are proud to be associated with a project of this quality and magnitude.
Dr Louis Cassar, conservation specialist at the University of Malta and Patrick Fenech, artist, photographer and University of Malta lecturer both touched on nature conservation, how the book documents our rich and vibrant natural heritage and how the publication lays the foundation for creating wider interest in using photography to document our natural heritage.
Dr Mario de Marco concluded with his address and encouraged more people to follow in Guido’s footsteps with regards to his dedication to our natural surroundings. He reiterated the government’s commitment to preserve and safeguard our environment.
With hundreds of species described and over 500 images of local flora and fauna, Guido Bonett presents a simple introduction to newcomers in nature photography, whilst documenting camera setting used to achieve these results. He highlights the possibilities that exist on these islands for the aspiring nature photographer and also encourages others to start looking at our world in a different way, camera in hand.
Guido Bonett, ARPS, AMPS has had a keen interest in nature and its conservation from a fairly young age and, as a consequence, he has travelled widely in his quest to observe and photograph wildlife.

Verżjoni bil-Malti
L-aħħar ktieb ta’ Guido Bonett, The Natural History of the Maltese Islands, ġie inawgurat il-Ġimgħa, 18 ta’ Novembru 2011 mis-segretarju parlamentari Mario de Marco fl-uffiċċini tal-Avantech, f’San Gwann.
The Natural History of the Maltese Islands huwa studju fotografiku tal-ġmiel meraviljuż tal-ħxejjex u tal-annimali f’dawn il-gżejjer. Publikazzjoni ta’ livell tant għoli li jħabbatha ma’ dak ta’ barra. Għalhekk, Nick Camilleri, id-direttur maniġerjali tal-Avantech, qal li l-impenn globali tal-Canon favur il-konservazzjoni tan-natura tinħass hawn Malta u għal din ir-raġuni, Avantech u Canon huma kburin li huma assoċċjati ma’ proġett ta’ din il-kwalità u kobor.
Dr Louis Cassar, speċjalistà tal-konservazzjoni fl-Università ta’ Malta, u Patrick Fenech, artist, fotografu u lecturer fl-Università ta’ Malta tkellmu fuq il-konservazzjoni tan-natura, kif il-ktieb jiddokumenta il-wirt naturali abbundanti u kif dan il-ktieb jipprepara l-pedamenti biex iqanqal iktar interess fl-użu tal-fotografija li tiddokumenta l-wirt naturali tagħna.
Dr Mario de Marco għalaq id-diskors tiegħu billi għamel kuraġġ lil aktar nies biex isegwu fil-passi ta’ Gwido fejn tidħol id-dedikazzjoni lejn in-natura ta’ madwarna. Reġa saħaq fuq l-impenn tal-gvern biex jippreserva u jissalvagwardja l-ambjent tagħna.
B’mijiet ta’ speċi deskritti u b’iktar minn 500 stampa ta’ flora u fawna lokali, Guido Bonett jippreżenta introduzzjoni sempliċi lil dawk ġodda fil-fotografija tan-natura, filwaqt li jiddokumenta s-settings tal-kamera użati biex jasal għal dawn ir-riżultati. Jenfasizza l-possibilitajiet li jeżistu fuq din il-gżira għal dawk il-fotografi ġodda tan-natura u jagħmel ukoll kuraġġ lil oħrajn biex jibdew iħarsu lejn id-dinja tagħna b’mod differenti, bil-kamera f’idejhom.
Guido Bonett, ARPS, AMPS, minn mindu kien zgħir, kien jinteressa ruħu fl-ambjent naturali. Għaldaqstant, siefer ħafna biex josserva u jieħu ritratti tan-natura selvaġġa madwar id-dinja.
