German Malta Maps

This is the second major exhibition after the first Miniature Maps of Malta exhibition which was organized by Heritage Malta and the Ministry for Gozo in September 2009 using ‘The Albert Ganado Malta Map Collection’ which is housed at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta, and other rare maps from private collectors.

The idea of the German Malta Maps exhibition stemmed from a lecture which Albert Ganado had delivered on German cartographers in Mainz in 1993, but which unfortunately never reached publication stage. Since maps by German cartographers tend to be limited, the parameters of the exhibition were therefore broadened to also include German authors and engravers. Over 80m maps are depicted in this book, some of which are being published for the first time.
